A Great Day of Music
RAISE YOUR VOICES IN PRAISE!

11:00 AM WORSHIP SERVICE
SUNDAY, MAY 9, 2010

Please tell your friends and be sure and join us on Sunday, May 9 for a very special day of music in our 11 AM worship service.  The service will be planned almost in its entirety to be presented in music and song – a day to honor Mother’s Day and to sing our praise to God.

SUPER CHOIR

Plan to be with us on this Sunday, as we share this service of singing and praise.  Our annual SUPER CHOIR, postponed by snowstorms in February, will meet at 9:30 a.m. to prepare a wonderful spiritual and a classic chorus of praise.  All UUMC members who like to sing are encouraged to participate and to invite friends and neighbors to join us for this great choral experience that is open to all.

UUMC PASTORS AND STAFF

Hear our talented pastors and staff as Pastor Perry Williams leads us in song with his guitar and special style.  Wesley Seminary intern, Steven Harris and wife, Ashley, will treat us with musical selections on this, their last Sunday with us.  UM Chaplain Kim Capps will perform a sample of gospel/blues that she is so well known for - and will also join the Campus Ministry’s vocal group, Harmony’s Cross, for a music sample in contemporary Christian style.

CONGREGATIONAL SINGING

Music Director John Wakefield will lead the congregation in several rousing hymn tunes in an attempt to “shake the rafters” in a previously unknown display of enthusiasm by all.

SPECIAL SOLOISTS

Special soloists, including our own Millie Scarlett and UM Jazz Program student, will present jazz and spiritual songs of prayer and praise.

Aldersgate Choir
Attend the 11:00 worship service Sunday morning and you will be blessed by the singing and ministry of the Aldersgate Choir, a volunteer chorus of about 30 members. Under the direction of John Wakefield, the choir sings a variety of selections ranging from classical to gospel, traditional and contemporary.  University of Maryland students who are members of the Aldersgate Choir may register for one semester hour of credit in the College of Arts and Humanities.

The choir sings each Sunday from September through May at the 11:00 a.m. worship service.  Rehearsals are held each Sunday morning from 10:30 to 10:45 a.m. in the sanctuary and on Thursday evening from 7:30 to 9 p.m. in the choir room at UUMC (except summer).

Are you interested in singing with the choir?  There are openings on all voice parts.  Anyone who is interested should contact John Wakefield (jewake@verizon.net).

Bell Choir

UUMC has a small group who play handbells.  Contact Samantha at spoe@umd.edu for more information.
