General Announcements

Retirement of John Wakefield

After 30+ years serving as the music director of University UMC, John Wakefield has announced his retirement effective June 1, 2018. Please take time to thank John for his many years of dedication and service to our music department. There will be a basket for you to place notes to John in the parlor. You can also honor John by attending worship on May 6th when the Super Choir comes together for the last time under his direction. Please invite friends of UUMC and singers to attend. May 27th will be John’s last Sunday as Music Director of the Aldersgate Choir. Blessings upon him as he retires.

Music Director Search

Please help spread the word that UUMC is seeking a motivated Music Director who is equipped to rejuvenate our music department. Ideally, this person will also be gifted in playing the piano and theologically trained or, at a minimum, knowledgeable of the Christian calendar. This person will work closely with Pastor Sherri to plan worship, so initial inquiries can be directed to the Pastor. A job description will be on our website soon.

Aldersgate Choir Summer Break

The Aldersgate Choir begins their summer break June 1st. We look forward to having the choir members and Beverly on the main level during worship.

Annual Conference

The 234th session of the Baltimore-Washington Conference will be held from May 30 - June 1 at the Marriott Inner Harbor in Baltimore. This annual event is an opportunity for United Methodists from 631 churches in Washington, D.C., Maryland, the panhandle of West Virginia and Bermuda to gather for worship, fellowship, learning and holy conferencing as they conduct the business of the church within this Annual Conference.  Pastor Sherri and Ray Prather will attend on our behalf. Please be in prayer for us as we conduct the business of the church.

Summer Cook-Outs

During the months of June – September, the potlucks are moved to the front lawn. The church provides hamburgers, hot dogs, buns, condiments, and beverages. Members are asked to please bring side dishes or desserts to share. If you are interested in serving as a grill master or assisting with set-up please contact Pastor Sherri.
