The Pastor’s Small Group Study is on break for the summer. Please continue to engage in personal times of Bible study. We will resume in September.


Fellowship Opportunities


August Potluck Cook-Out (August 12)


During the summer months, we move our fellowship to the front lawn on the second Sundays. The church will provide hamburgers, hot dogs, buns, condiments, and beverages. Please bring a side dish or dessert to share. If you are interested in serving as a grill master or assisting with set-up please contact Pastor Sherri or the church office.


Mission/Outreach Opportunities


(1)   Loaves and Fishes Café (August 19)


Each month, on the third Sunday, after 11 a.m. worship, we enter into a time of service as we share a hot meal with the community. Volunteers are always welcome to visit with our guests, help serve, or assist in the kitchen. Set up and clean up assistance is needed also. Questions? (2)   University of Maryland Student Welcome Bags


Below is a list of some of the most forgotten items on the UMD Move-In List. Let us be instrumental in preparing the way for these students to survive away from home by gifting them with these items. Please drop off items in the box in the narthex through August 26thMonetary donations can also be made by placing cash or a check in an envelope and writing UMD on the outside of the envelope.

(3)   Help-by-Phone Food Bank


Help by Phone, Ltd. serves seven food pantries, open five days a week, to meet the needs of large numbers of people who simply do not have enough food on any given day. Let’s support these food pantries by donating the following canned or dried food items in the original unopened packaging. Please confirm that the expiration dates have not passed.

General Announcements




UUMC will begin offering yoga in the gym on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. Bring your yoga mat and water bottle. Classes begin August 1st.


Church Assessment


The leadership will be conducting an assessment to determine steps for moving forward. An initial consultation with the Baltimore Washington Conference (BWC) Director of Leadership and Congregational Development is scheduled for August 27th.


Coffee Hour Hosts


Do you enjoy the refreshments and the fellowship each Sunday after worship? Do you know how easy it is to serve as a host for coffee hour? All you have to do to sign up is put your name on the lines for the Sundays you desire to host. Maybe you want to host during your birthday month or anniversary month? You can host to celebrate or honor a special occasion in your life? Let’s all volunteer for at least one Sunday this year.




The cost for two arrangements to adorn the sanctuary is $53. Place your check for in the collection plate before or on the day that you have requested flowers. The plastic container is reusable and, if returned, the florist will issue a small credit to the church. If you have no plans for the containers, and are just going to recycle them, please consider returning them to the church. You may call the office with any questions.

It is always a good time to go electronic. Just think, you can stay informed and financially contribute wherever your travels or schedule may lead you.   


-       Stay informed by getting UUMC reminders and announcements electronically. All you have to do is send an email to


-       Give electronically through your bank or by using Vanco. It is as simple as 1, 2, 3. Step 1 – Go to your banking website. Step 2 – Sign up for bill pay. Step 3 – Add University United Methodist Church as a payee (no fees apply). Another option is to use the Vanco bill pay by going to the church’s website ( and clicking the “donate online”
