10 a.m. Worship in the Sanctuary; Aldersgate Choir on Summer Break

Annual Conference Presentation (July 1)

On July 8th, our Lay Member to Annual Conference, Ray Prather, will report on the 234th session of the Baltimore-Washington Conference. This is a great time to learn more about the business of our conference and the connectional church.

Christian Education Sunday (July 29)

One of the congregational goals set by the leadership for this Conference Year is to have a Sunday where the entire congregation engages in Bible Study. We will gather in the sanctuary at 10 a.m. for a brief time of devotion and instruction before dispersing into small groups around the church.

Spiritual Growth Opportunities

Pastor’s Small Group Class

The Pastor’s Small Group Study is on break for the summer. Please continue to engage in personal times of Bible study. We will resume in September.

Fellowship Opportunities

Independence Day Fireworks (July 4)

We are hosting our annual Fourth of July event on the church lawn. We will have a hospitality table for the community and are in need of assistance with set-up, clean up, and cupcake donations. If you can help, please sign up (sheet on Loaves and Fishes bulletin board). To drop off treats, bring them to church on Sunday, July 1st, or coordinate with Kim to ensure that the kitchen will be open.

July Potluck Cook-Out (July 8)

During the summer months, we move our fellowship to the front lawn on the second Sundays. The church will provide hamburgers, hot dogs, buns, condiments, and beverages. Please bring a side dish or dessert to share. If you are interested in serving as a grill master or assisting with set-up please contact Pastor Sherri or the church office.

Mission/Outreach Opportunities

(1)   CUCE Day Center (July 3)

During the summer months, CUCE needs assistance providing meals for the guests at our Day Center housed at University Disciples of Christ Church in Hyattsville. Hot meals are served every Tuesday and Thursday at 2 p.m. to approximately 30 guests plus servers and workers. UUMC will be providing the meal on July 3rd. Servers and meals are needed. Please see Rev. Rochelle for more information.

Each month, on the third Sunday, after 11 a.m. worship, we enter into a time of service as we share a hot meal with the community. Volunteers are always welcome to visit with our guests, help serve, or assist in the kitchen. Set up and clean up assistance is needed also. Questions? (4) Blood Drive

Dear UCNS Families,

As most of you know, Imogen, one of the students from our 4s class, has been living at Children’s Hospital waiting for (and recently receiving!) a heart transplant. She used many pints of blood during her surgery, and the one thing her family has asked from the community is for us to donate blood to help repay their “debt” to the blood bank. If you’re interested in learning more about Imogen and her family’s journey, you can visit her mother’s blog.

To make this as easy as possible for anyone who feels called to help, we have arranged to have the Children’s Hospital Bloodmobile come to UCNS on July 13th from 10am-3pm. While the blood collection itself only takes about 15 minutes, please plan to be on-site for 45 minutes-one hour to allow for intake, the draw, and observation/snack time after the draw. Blood collected in will be used to stock the blood bank at Children’s Hospital to help other children like Imogen, and each pint can help 3-4 kids in need. Your gift can go a very long way!

Since the drive will take place about a month after the end of our school year, this can also be a great way to catch up with friends! Bring your kiddos with you to play with friends on the playground while you donate; we’ll have an adult on site to look after them while you’re busy. Stay and chat with other adults once you’re finished.

Please visit to schedule directly through the Children's Hospital system for a specific time slot, or just show up anytime between 10am-3pm.

Thank you all for being such a wonderful, supportive community. Imogen’s family has really been feeling the love!

Thank you,

Stephanie Brewer

Director, UCNS
